What is ragweed allergy, when does it occur and what can be done about it?

Ragweed season starts in mid-August and lasts until mid-October or until a hard freeze. The season typically peaks around Labor Day. When a sensitive person is exposed to ragweed pollen, the body's immune system behaves abnormally, releasing histamine and other chemicals. This causes nasal itching, congestion, sneezing, and itchy, red eyes. Untreated individuals may feel miserable, unable to attend and/or concentrate at school, work, and sports. Sufferers are also at a higher risk of developing sinus infections and worsening asthma symptoms. It is important to see a Board-certified Allergist to receive the proper and most effective treatment.
