What are some Behavioral Definitions for depression?

Depression is a feelings of being intensely miserable, and/or hopeless. Some individuals describe behaviors as follows: Sad or flat affect; Preoccupation with the subject of death; Suicidal thoughts and/or actions; Moody irritability; Isolation from family and/or peers; Deterioration of academic performance; Lack of interest in previously enjoyed activities; Refusal to communicate openly; Use of street drugs to elevate mood; Low energy; Little or no eye contact and frequent verbalization of low self-esteem; Reduced appetite; Increased sleep; Poor concentration and indecision; Feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, or inappropriate guilt; Unresolved grief issues; and, Mood-related hallucinations or delusions.

My understanding of Long-term Goals for Depression?

The first of four goals: acknowledge the depression verbally and resolve its causes, leading to normalization of the emotional state; Elevate the mood and show evidence of the usual energy, activities, and socialization, level; Reduce irritability and increase normal social interaction with family and friends; show a renewed typical interest in academic achievement, social involvement, and eating patterns as well as occasional expressions of joy and zest for life.
