Over the last month, I’ve noticed my hands have been numb when I wake up in the morning. What should I do?

There are several reasons you could have numbness in your hands and I would recommend having an evaluation by your physician or a physical therapist to determine the source of your symptoms. The answer may be as easy as your position in sleep or something more serious. If your symptoms are occurring because of a musculoskeletal problem, a physical therapist at STARS could tailor a program specifically for you to address the factors causing your symptoms. Our goals would be to return normal function to you as quickly as possible and give you a program to prevent future occurrences. For more information, contact Heidi at STARS at 367-3315.

I have pain in my back when I’m sitting at my desk at work. Should I ask for a new chair?

Back pain while sitting for long periods of time is a very common complaint. A supportive chair can be a great step toward improving your sitting posture which should reduce your pain. Getting up from your desk occasionally is a good way to break up your sitting time and reduce your pain. If symptoms persist, you may have something more serious causing your back pain. A physical therapist at STARS can evaluate you and design a plan to reduce your back pain and improve your sitting tolerance. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call STARS at 367-3315.
