My son has just completed his baseball season as a pitcher and catcher. His arm is now tired and sore, usually in the back of his shoulder. He did not seem to be throwing as hard as he did earlier in the season. He enjoys baseball and I am wondering if there is anything he can do to prepare for next year.

We have a particular interest in sports at STARS. Our physical therapists are familiar with the biomechanics of the throwing motion and muscles involved. Certain muscles are involved in the acceleration phase of throwing while others are more active in decelerating the arm and preventing injury. An assessment of your son could be used to develop a program to prepare him for the next season. This might help his performance and will likely keep his arm feeling good so that he enjoys playing more. Call Peter at STARS at 367-3315.
