I suffer from leakage of urine after prostate surgery, are there options for treatment?

Incontinence is becoming an uncommon problem after treatment of prostate disease, but still occurs. It’s crucial to define the type of incontinence which could be stress, urge or mixed.  Medications can be utilized to treat the problem. Other non invasive therapies, such as pelvic floor physical therapy and biofeedback, are available and effective. External devices are available but can be bothersome. Surgical therapies include injection of bulking agents, male slings, and artificial urinary sphincter for control of severe incontinence. Nerve stimulation may be utilized to control bladder overactivity. Stem cells injection studies show promising results.

I have overactive bladder and take medications but they stopped working, what can be done?

Most patients respond to medications. The individuals that either do not respond or have lost response, or cannot tolerate side effects may be treated with pelvic floor nerve stimulation, either sacral or peripheral, which have been proven to be effective in the treatment of overactive bladder. Behavioral modification is important. Botulinum toxin (Botox™) has been shown to be effective in treating overactive bladder in patients that have not responded to the above mentioned therapies. Newer medications are being investigated and address the problem from a new angle.
