If I have a torn meniscus in my knee are there exercises I can do safely?

You can do exercises in straight planes such as leg extensions, leg curls, and leg press (if you are not too close).  There are several things to avoid, such as deep squats and activities that require pivoting on the involved lower extremity.  A physical therapist can evaluate your problem and design a specific exercise program for you.  Call Paula at STARS at 378-0256.

I injured my knee several months ago and was diagnosed with a torn meniscus. My knee pain has mostly resolved, but are there safe exercises that could be done?

Any exercises you do should be in straight planes of motion. That means without any twisting, pivoting or cutting.  Also, avoid any deep squatting by staying above 90 degrees of knee flexion. If you have further questions, contact your orthopedist or a physical therapist could help you set up an independent exercise program. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Paula at STARS at 378-0256.
