I fell downstairs while carrying a box one month ago. My arm got caught on the railing and was pulled backwards. I had no initial pain but two weeks later my arm started to hurt and now my low back hurts, as well.  What type of therapy would work best for me?

Aquatic therapy may work well for you since you have multiple injured areas. The warmth of the water will improve circulation, thereby reducing the inflammation to these injured areas. The water pressure will help to reduce swelling and you will be able to strengthen the injured muscles as well.  For more information, call Nancy at STARS at 424-8175.

I am a runner and after I run for about an hour, the outside of my knee and low back start to ache. What is this problem and what can I do about it?

You may be experiencing illiotibial band syndrome which may be caused from instability in your sacroiliac joint due to weakness of your core musculature. Strengthening your lower abdominal muscles, hip musculature, low back and pelvic floor muscles should help to alleviate your discomfort. If your problem persists, you may need the assistance of a physical therapist to further guide and treat your dysfunction. For more information or to make an appointment, call Nancy at STARS at 424-8175.
