Are there alternatives to medication for my low back pain?

Yes. Many non-pharmacologic interventions are available for treatment of low back pain.  Research has consistently shown the value of specific physical therapy interventions for patients with low back pain.  These interventions include manual therapy or hands on therapy to mobilize the spine and exercise designed to alleviate low back pain.    Other research-based interventions for chronic low back pain include cognitive–behavioral therapy and rehabilitation by a team of experts in various disciplines.

Are my headaches related to my neck pain?

Some headaches can be related to neck pain. Cervicogenic headaches, for example, originate from a source in the neck with pain felt in one or more areas of the head and/or face. A percent of chronic or re-occurring headaches are said to be Cervicogenic.  Cervicogenic Headaches are a common condition treated by physical therapists.    Impairments related to Cervicogenic Headaches include but are not limited to decreased cervical range of motion, painful upper cervical joint dysfunction, and weakness in the cervical muscular system.  A Physical Therapist may use several effective treatment options including mobilization of the upper cervical spine and endurance and coordination training of the neck muscles.
