I’ve been told I have an enlarged prostate (BPH), might I have cancer?

BPH refers to growth of the prostate, seen often as men age. It can cause problems with urination including the need to go often, waking at night to go, rushing to the restroom, a weak stream or straining. Over time, more serious problems can develop such as gradual and silent kidney damage. Although there is no direct link between prostate cancer and BPH, it is important to screen for cancer in patients with BPH symptoms because prostate cancer can cause similar symptoms. There are many treatments available ranging from diet and medications to minor office procedures or minimally invasive outpatient surgery.

I had a vasectomy 5 years ago and I am now remarried, and my wife and I would like to have children. How complicated would it be to have a vasectomy reversal?

A vasectomy reversals are generally very successful when done by an experienced surgeon. We do the procedure using microsurgical techniques in our surgical center under local anesthesia with sedation. It is very safe. There is minimal discomfort and the recovery is similar to a vasectomy. Sperm cells are usually seen in the ejaculatory fluid within 3-4 months and fertility is often within 4-6 months.
