How many bowel movements per day are considered normal?

The normal range extends from having 3 bowel movements per day to 3 per week. Many factors affect this number, like fiber intake, physical activity, and certain medications. If you feel you are going too often or not often enough, or if you notice a change in the stool frequency or consistency, please call our office.

I have been having trouble swallowing my food lately. It just doesn’t want to go down. What could be wrong?

Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) has numerous potential causes. Just a few are: infections of the esophagus, narrowing of the esophagus from chronic acid reflux, and rarely, tumors. Discuss your symptoms with your physician. He or she will likely suggest an EGD (upper endoscopy) for direct visualization of the esophagus. If a stricture is found, usually the doctor will be able to dilate or stretch the esophagus so that you will be able to swallow more easily.  Please call our office if you need more information.
