I have pancreatic cancer and the pain is not controlled by narcotics. Are there any other options for pain control?

Cancer of the pancreas frequently causes severe pain that can decrease a patient’s quality of life. The cancer causes pain in the nerves of the thoracic spinal cord. These nerves from the pancreas bundle through the celiac plexus on their way from the pancreas to the spinal cord. A celiac plexus nerve block frequently gives additional pain relief. This can be accomplished by surgery, radiology or endoscopy. The endoscopic technique is guided by endoscopic ultrasound and is the least invasive. Usually pain relief is not 100%, but is good. There are potential complications, but the procedure is usually well tolerated.
